I could not agree more. In fact, I would go further. People who drink and drive are plain criminal. Criminally responsible and deserving of the most severe punishment possible. The person who killed some 80 people in Norway is a murderer who was intent on killing a certain type of person i.e. political party members. The person who drinks and drives is for me the same.

These heathen specimens of humanity who dare call themselves human, drink to the point of destruction and then think it is perfectly ok to drive a car in that condition and are completely ok with being killed or killing other people! How sick is that? As far as I am concerned, people who drink drive and are caught should never be allowed to drive again and in a country like Canada, that is a harsh penalty especially in the winter.

But it does not compare to the pain and suffering endured by Sarah and many others around the world due to this pernicious and deadly activity. Is there a solution? There could be but it involves all of us allowing our lives to be compromised in order to control the actions of the few. It involves simple measures like banning the sale of alcohol in main line supermarkets especially in countries like the UK. It is far too easy for young people to simply walk into a grocery store there and buy booze.

It involves government educating people on the dangers of drinking and driving and instead of taking large amounts of tax revenues and using it to buy weapons, using that tax money for education and alcohol recovery programs. It involves beefing up the punishment for any offender that is involved in a drink drive charge where injury or death is concerned i.e. automatic life ban on driving anything, no second chance and a lengthy prison sentence. That sentence would include a clause where the family of the perpetrator of the crime would have to pay for their prison costs and court costs - I don't see why the poor taxpayer has to pay for someone to commit crime!

But there is one, simple, undeniable measure that would drastically reduce drink drive crime around the world - DON'T ALLOW ANY DRINK DRIVING! It's a no brainer and I have never worked out why any government of any respectable democracy would allow such a filthy pastime!
