News of the World Phone Hacking

In all the time I have been watching, listening or writing about news and current affairs, I can honestly say that I have never heard anything quite so disgraceful as the phone hacking carried out by News International in the guise of the News of the World.

Let's get something clear - the News of the World is known as gutter tabloid press, the worst kind of media where getting the story is all important and nothing else matters. That is all well and good but when an organisation as big as News International, headed by that prize twat Rupert Murdoch, starts to abuse ordinary people and invade their private lives in order to get a so called story, then this is far beneath even gutter press.

The word that comes to mind is depraved - it is so baseless, tasteless, abusive beyond imagination to actually hack into the phone of a private individual whoever they are. Also, let me make it clear that celebrities, politicians, victims of crime and their families in fact almost everyone out there is entitled to privacy. There can be no justification for this kind of CRIMINAL activity.

Now, because most of us have turned a blind eye to Murdoch and his brand of crap journalism, the poor taxpayer is going to have to foot the bill for an enquiry. Enquiry into what? We know what went on, we know how they did it, why does not matter.

What needs to happen now is simple - let the police finish their investigation, bring the evidence to court charge everyone connected including Murdoch, make News International pay massive compensation to all those affected and in addition, make News International PAY for the enquiry! They started all this rubbish of hacking and all the consequences that we are now faced with, let them pay for any enquiries INCLUDING all the police time that has been spent so far investigating the matter.

Lastly, I have to agree with Andrew Neil on the BBC, self regulation of the press DOES NOT WORK! The PCC is a laughing stock that has done nothing to reign in the likes of Murdoch and others. We need statutory laws that make activities such as phone hacking a CRIMINAL OFFENCE punishable with a prison sentence. If they threw the management of the News of the World in prison right now, I bet they would mend their ways!
